The Art for Change project, initiated by TUSC
Concepts, has announced the launch of its first cohort.
Over the weekend, 30 talented artists gathered at
the Dandora Community Center to represent visual arts in addressing social
issues within Kenya.
The unique project has been designed to empower
artists and provide them with the tools and resources necessary to create
thought-provoking pieces that spark conversation and challenge existing ideas.
With a strong emphasis on collaboration, the
project aims to create a community of like-minded individuals who can work
together to bring about positive change.
The launch event was attended by Art for Change Head of Operations Lanet Karuiki,
TUSC Concepts Founder Ochieng Quinter, as well as media personality Janet
Mbugua.
These influential figures lent their support to the
project and showed their commitment to promoting social change through the
arts.
Over the next six months, the Art for Change
Project will embark on a nationwide tour, partnering with local leaders, NGOs,
and institutions to bring about positive change in a number of key areas.
These areas include SRHR, gender-based violence,
menstrual health and hygiene, police brutality, inclusivity, and mental health.
The project will utilize both visual and
performance arts to address these pressing social issues and raise awareness
throughout the country.
The Art for Change Project is a unique and
innovative initiative that aims to empower artists to become agents of social
change.
