Kenya and its Arsenal FC fan base were treated to a surprise Independence Day greeting message from the London-based club on Monday morning through a thoughtful Facebook post.

The club shared an image themed in the colors of the Kenyan flag with the message “HAPPY INDEPENCE DAY KENYA” with the message “Have a fantastic day, Gooners!” along with the post.

The delighted Gooners obliged, rushing to appreciate the extraordinary gesture that left even the fiercest of critics of the club and its ‘haters’ in awe.

“I am a Chelsea FC fan; above all, Kenyan. But this gesture by Arsenal to mark, recognise Kenya’s Jamhuri Day on its official Facebook page, which has a worldwide following of nearly 37.5 million citizens, is priceless. It means a lot to us (Kenyans). Thank you.” Brian Okoth, an ardent Chelsea fan and author at edaily.co.ke commented.

“The Arsenal family, we are humbled by your honour. Kindly win for us tomorrow’s game at everton as a present for our country. One Kenya, One Arsenal, One Game! COYG!!!” Nick Odhiambo Breda wrote.

“Arsenal, you never stop to amaze us Kenyan gooners!! This is truly humbling, we are not asking for too much when we request that you put us in your future pre-season tours. Please let it be in my lifetime, thank you for your consideration,” David Toywa joined the Gooner bandwagon.

Amid a series of positive displays from the club that seen them climb to second in the league standings, a section of Gooners seized the moment to demand for more from Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.

“Thank you Arsenal, proud to be associated with you now go ahead and dethrone Chelsea from that top position and make us even more proud, lotsa love from Kenya,” Cherotich Karen Kiki replied.

“This is a real surprise. I never thought Kenya’s Independence Day is a marked date in Arsenal’s calendar. For our nation’s gift we want 3 points at Gudsson Park.” Another, Job Okoth, demanded.

The Gunners are currently on 34 points, three behind league leaders Chelsea and 10 clear of bitter rivals Manchester United.
