An administration police officer (AP) has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for defiling a 13-year-old girl at his working station.

Mr Joseph Mutua was arraigned at the Maua Law Courts before Resident Magistrate Oscar Wanyaga where he was charged with defiling a minor contrary to the Defilement Act.

The DNA test carried out on the now 19-year-old girl revealed that the AP was guilty of the offense that left her pregnant.

Muthomi Thiankolu, the minor’s advocate and a representative of the Ripples International, an organisation that sued Mr Mutua, said Ripples International has been on the forefront in seeking justice for the minor after the police tried to hide the information on the incident.

According to Ms Thiankolu, the accused deserved the 20 years custodial sentence since the crime falls in the list of capital offenses.

Kirimi Mbogo, an advocate of the accused, however asked for a lesser sentence since the accused pleaded guilty and in return took in the girl as a wife after taking full responsibility of her, her child and her mother.
