Anti-graft body wants ex-city finance boss’ accounts frozen

The High Court will in July determine whether former Nairobi County Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba’s bank accounts will remain frozen for six more months as demanded by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC).
This came after both parties appeared before Justice Mbogholi Msagha in a case over Kiamba’s bank accounts on alleged corruption.
According to the EACC, the suspicious transaction in his bank accounts is sufficient enough to warrant Kiamba’s accounts being subjected to further investigations for 6 more months as he faces economic crime of over 400 million shillings that he is alleged to have stolen from City Hall between January and November last year.
However, Kiamba’s lawyer told the court that EACC had frozen his accounts for 8 months yet they have not tabled any evidence in court linking him to alleged graft and merely casted aspersions as to what evidence they have.
EACC moved to court seeking to have the former city finance chief’s accounts remain frozen for a further 6 months after the initial 8 month freezing ordered by the court to enable them conclude their probe ended.
