With four matches to spare, Mathare United Women have sealed promotion to the top-tier league after a remarkable campaign in the National Super League (NSL), marking a triumphant return after four years away from elite competition.

The team sealed their promotion in style with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Gitothua during the weekend, a result that confirmed their dominance and underlined their determination to reclaim their place among the country’s best teams.

In a wide-ranging reflection with Citizen Digital, head coach Anne Aluoch credited the teams success to careful preparation and strong support structures put in place long before the season began. She highlighted early planning, reliable sponsorship, and the club’s extensive experience in the NSL as key factors that contributed to their promotion.

She adds that the journey back to the top league required discipline, patience, and consistency from both players and technical staff.

"The required resources were available and also better planning. We also managed to seal the loopholes that were there last season. Our plan was to fight for promotion and make sure we don't get relegate again," Aluoch said.

The coach also acknowledged the tough nature of the NSL, describing it as one of the most competitive leagues in the country. She noted that the high level of competition stems from the shared ambition among teams to secure promotion to the top tier, making every match a demanding contest.

"The competition in the NSL is tough because there, everyone is fighting for promotion, unlike in the Premier League. This promotion comes with advantage because we will attract good players and the rest of the players can now attract national team call-ups," she added.

With 49 points already collected and four matches remaining before the end of the season, Mathare United Women have already been crowned league champions, an achievement that reflects their dominance and consistency throughout the campaign.
