The African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) has announced the appointment of new leadership following the conclusion of the terms of its outgoing officials.
Prof. James
Njiru has been named the new Executive Director and CEO of AICAD, taking over
from the outgoing CEO, Prof. Dominic Byarugaba of Uganda. The announcement was
made during the organization's governance meeting held on Friday at AICAD
headquarters, located at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology
(JKUAT) in Juja, Kenya.
At the board
level, Uganda’s Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, has
been appointed as the new Chairperson. She succeeds Prof. Carolyne Nombo of
Tanzania. However, Dr. Turyagyenda will officially assume her duties in October
this year.
“The CEO will
take up his role immediately, while the Chairperson will begin her term in
October,” said outgoing Chairperson Prof. Nombo during the meeting.
Leadership
positions at AICAD are rotational among the three founding member states—Kenya,
Uganda, and Tanzania. The Chairperson's role rotates every two years, while the
CEO’s position changes every three years.
Established
in 2000, AICAD is a regional organization dedicated to poverty reduction
through capacity building, training, research, and knowledge sharing across
East Africa.
