Homegrown institution championing for interests of African nations, the AfroAsia Institute for Strategic Studies, has commenced a conference to address the perennial conflicts in the Horn of Africa and other East African nations.

The conference, under the theme Navigating the Challenges: A Conference on Charting a New Course for The Region”, has assembled experts from Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Sudan to share their perspectives and experiences.

AfroAsia Institute Executive Director Abdiwahab Sheikh Abdisamad said that there is a need to harness peace in the region to promote growth.

"The Horn of Africa is a region of strategic importance and immense potential, but also of immense challenges and risks. It is home to some of the fastest-growing economies in Africa. It is also home to some of the most protracted and complex conflicts and crises," he said.

"We believe a timely discussion is important to prevent further escalation of violence, to address the root causes of the endless conflicts, and to find long-term solutions for the millions of people affected by the crisis."

Abdisamad noted that the two-day conference is set to examine the muddle thoroughly by engaging with all relevant actors.

He also noted that the conference will aim to promote dialogue, cooperation, and peacebuilding among the different communities and countries in the Horn of Africa EAC nations.
