40 elephants missing from Tsavo East National Park found

Chyulu Senior Warden Peter Njoroge said the elephants, which were moving in two groups through University of Nairobi land, have been contained and taken to the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KARLO) land in Kibwezi.

Warden Njoroge assured residents of their safety, reaffirming the Kenya Wildlife Service's commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence between communities and wildlife.

Residents of Kiboko have been complaining of frequent elephant invasions, sending them to huge losses in farm produce damage.

Elsewhere, 15 elephants mysteriously died in neighbouring Amboseli National Park. 

KWS reported 15 elephant deaths between June 24 and July 24, 2026, in the Amboseli National Park, Kimana Sanctuary, and Kuku Ranch areas

Preliminary tests from the University of Nairobi point to a potential toxic substance.
