19-year-old in hospital after ‘spiritualists’ gouge out his eyes

A 19-year-old man from Bauchi state in North East Nigeria is receiving medical treatment after his were gouged out by people who wanted to use them in spiritual rituals, the BBC reports.

Husain Emmanuel was reportedly attacked two weeks ago in his rural home in Tafawa Balewa in Bauchi state.

He says he was lured by two acquaintances to a nearby river for a swim.

On the way to the river, the 19-year-old man mechanic says he was promised a cushy job in Southern Nigeria with one of the men.

When they arrived by the river he says he was attacked and knocked unconscious.

Emanuel told the news outlet that he woke up screaming in pain for help; he could not see.

According to the outlet, police have since launched investigations into the allegations.
