Police officers have arrested 12 suspects in connection with an incident in which a group of rowdy youths allegedly attempted to obstruct a convoy of dignitaries in Siaya town.

The dignitaries had gone to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) grounds in Siaya to attend a women's economic empowerment function on September 8, 2026.

The event was hosted by First Lady Rachel Ruto, who was accompanied by government officials including Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

The suspects are said to have obstructed the convoy and hurled stones at police officers who were guarding the entrance of a secured gate.

As the convoy proceeded towards the designated landing and take-off site, chaos erupted as the rowdy youths attempted to force their way through.

Security officers responded by restoring order and arresting the 12 suspects believed to have been involved in the incident.

Police continue with investigations to identify other persons found to have been involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, the 12 suspects remain in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment.
