In a bustling county like Kiambu, the living conditions of residents play a crucial role in their quality of life.

However, at the Witeithie estate in Juja constituency, residents are frustrated and discontent due to the appalling state of dirt and neglect in the area.

Residents claim they have reached a breaking point, and are now appealing to the Kiambu County government for immediate intervention to clean up its streets, repair the roads and restore dignity in the estate.

Pictures seen by Wananchi Reporting show accumulated garbage and debris scattered at certain corners of Witeithie, posing health risks to the residents.

Unhygienic conditions are a breeding ground for pests and diseases which cause significant distress among members of the community,” says the local residents.

According to the residents, the unhygienic conditions grossly tarnish the image of the estate.

There is concern that this could hamper economic growth in the area by discouraging potential investors, therefore hindering job opportunities for the local population.

Residents told Wananchi Reporting that accumulated garbage in the area has attracted vermin and pests, such as rats and mosquitoes.

Many fear that the unhygienic conditions could increase the likelihood of respiratory ailments, skin infections, and gastrointestinal disorders.

The accumulation of non-biodegradable waste, such as plastic bags and bottles, also pollute the nearby water sources and soil, leading to long-term ecological damage.

“We need an effective waste management system within the estate, including putting more effort to ensure regular garbage collection, recycling initiatives, and responsible waste disposal among residents,’’ said a resident who spoke to Wananchi Reporting.

The residents are pleading with the county government to take immediate action and help restore hygiene in the estates.
