A centenarian in Kikomba Village, Kangundo Sub-county, Machakos, has amazed many by being among the first pensioners in the country to transition to the new digital pension scheme.

At 102 years old, Joel Mutiso Mbuva has been a pensioner for nearly 52 years after exiting from public service in 1973.

It is this enduring spirit that caught the attention of officials from the national Treasury, who joined him in celebrating his birthday in this village and commended him for registering on the self-service portal despite his advanced age.

Despite his age, Joel remains energetic.

In spite of receiving Ksh. 5,000 monthly from his pension, Joel said the amount has enabled him to sustain him.

The father of eight with many grandchildren said his transition to the new system shows that no one is too old to adapt to change.

Kageka Michael, Director for Pensions in the National Treasury, said the Pension Self-Service Portal is designed to streamline access to pension records, facilitate the tracking of payments, and minimize the need for physical visits to pension offices.
