Residents in Uriri, Siaya County have protested constant power outage in the area.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, locals said they have experienced a blackout for the last three months.

Taking to the streets in Gem Wagai, the residents said the only transformer that was serving the area was taken by Kenya Power engineers.

Carrying placards, they called on the power supplier to restore electricity in the area.

They added that cases of theft have been on the rise due to lack of electricity.

"We need electricity for our businesses and other uses at home. Our appliances have lying idle for months now," Christine Achieng' lamented.

Schools and public facilities such as health centres have not been spared either. "We can no longer access key services from hospitals," Sandra Kachieng' added.

Calling for swift action, residents noted that their numerous complaints to Kenya Power are yet to be addressed.
