Police in Kirinyaga  County are investigating an incident in which the body of a 25-year-old man from Mahiga-ini village in Mwea constituency was found dumped in a rice farm canal with severe face injuries.

The man had gone missing for five days before his body was found.

According to Mwea-East sub-county police commander Patrick Nyaanga, the body of Joseph  Munyi  Wairimu was found    in a canal near KALRO  farm by residents who were  cutting grass.

"We have launched investigations to establish exactly what happened to Munyi," the police boss said.

Residents of Mahiga-ini village who arrived at the scene when the alarm was raised, led by  a village elder Gathee Muriithi, said Munyi went missing on 14th August, and his mother villagers had been searching for him.

The man worked as a cleaner at a local hotel at Ngurubani town.

"We wonder who could kill him and dump his body in a rice farm water canal," Muriithi said.

"He was well when he left Ngurubani and that's why I suspect he was murdered though we are waiting for detectives to conduct investigations," Mary Nyawira, a colleague, said.

Mwea-east sub-county police boss Patrick Nyaanga said the deceased's body was taken to Kibugi Funeral Home, Kutus awaiting a postmortem as investigations continue.
