A section of residents in Nyandarua county have called on Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to rein in wildlife wreaking havoc in homesteads.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, the locals, most of whom are farmers, complained that they have had to bear heavy losses after livestock were attacked and killed by an animal they suspect to be a leopard.

In the latest incident, 40 sheep were killed by the wild animal.

The group said the wild animal attacks homes at night and they only wake up to find their livestock dead.

“We have alerted the relevant authorities to take action, but still nothing has been done. We are frustrated,” one farmer said.

“Sometimes when we make a report, we are told that it is probably a rabid dog that is killing our livestock, but that is not the case.”

The residents have now urged the government to compensate them for the loss of their livestock and take action to prevent further disasters.
