Residents of Bakarani area, Kisauni constituency, in Mombasa county were left in shock after thieves invaded the mosque and stole two coffins.

According to a statement by a local leader, Mohamed Hamid, the two stolen coffins made from aluminum were stolen from the Marhaba mosque located in Bakarani.

He said that they noticed the coffins were missing on Thursday when preparing to use one for a burial ceremony  organized at the mosque.

The chief of Frere town Twalib Dola confirmed the incident saying that ten iron sheets were also stolen.

Dola said that the incident was reported at Mbungoni police station.

He urged business owners involved in the sale of scrap metals in the area to file a report in case the metallic caskets are sold to them.

Hamid added that the mosque is planning on hosting special prayers known to condemn the people involved in the theft that they say has never happened before in the area.
