Migori: Schools put on the spot for sabotaging learners’ COVID-19 vaccination

A section of schools in Migori County have been put on the spot for reportedly sabotaging the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination targeting learners aged 15 years and above.

Among the schools that have been put on the spot is Rapogi Boys’ Secondary School in Uriri.

Migori County Director of Public Health Kennedy Ombogo said health officers who were sent to give students COVID-19 vaccination jab on Friday were blocked.

He said the school only allowed the heath officers access to the institution over the weekend, where they managed to give the jab to a mere 220 students out of over 1500 students in the school.

Ombogo claims that some of the teachers in the school are not vaccinated despite the government directives and are thus exposing the learners to risk of contracting COVID-19.

He further warned the teachers against sabotaging government exercises, saying it is an offense punishable by law.

Rapogi School principal Stephene Abongo has since denied the claims saying nobody was blocked from accessing the school.

Meanwhile, Migori County department of health is targeting 122,000 people with the vaccine during the ongoing Rapid Response Initiative (RRI) that is running for ten days.

It has so far issued the jab to 144,015 people in Migori county against a target of over 560,000.
