Machakos residents decry elephant menace as donkey trampled to death

Residents of Kamunyu village, Masinga sub-county in Machakos county have called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to act on the elephant menace which is putting the lives of locals and animals at risk.

Locals have complained that a herd of elephants has been roaming freely in the area, causing fear among residents and wreaking havoc.

In the latest incident, a donkey was trampled on to death as it drank water in City Cotton area.

One resident escaped injuries narrowly as he ran before the herd attacked him.

Locals have been caught up in a land ownership dispute, further aggravating the situation.
