There was drama in Kirinyaga
after two men walked into Makutano police station to surrender a cow they are suspected to have stolen from one of the locals.
The suspects reportedly walked into the station with the cow – while covered by a swarm of bees – and kept screaming as the bees ate them.
According to the police, a report had been made at the station on November 3, concerning theft of livestock belonging to one Miss Lilian Waithera.
The lady positively identified the cow as her own. “This is my cow, and it was stolen two days ago,” she said after she found the cow tied to a tree at the station.
The area Assistant Chief Mr. Daniel Kiama Maina confirmed the incident. He identified the suspects as Phillip Wekesa 32, and Mwamba Ili aged 25 years.
“I am told that the suspects had tried to sell the cow at the Makutano market, but did not find a buyer. That was before the bees shepherded them to the station where they surrendered the cow,” he said.
Miss Lilian told the police that she had decided to seek the services of a witchdoctor to help her trace and find the cow.
Residents watched in disbelief as the witchdoctor commanded the bees back into a bag he was carrying, before casually walking away.
The residents have decried the rising cases of livestock theft in the counties of Kirinyaga and Embu, and asked police to enhance security.
The Assistant Chief, Mr. Maina, however, discouraged residents from resorting to using witchdoctors to solve issues, and instead asked those with concerns to report them to the police.
The two suspects are being held at the Makutano police station.
