Kerugoya: Metal dealers put on notice as manhole covers stolen
They two are accused of stealing the covers near a construction site on Wednesday.
The resident engineer working at the site, Lenny Kirimi, reported that losses worth millions of shillings have been occasioned by several theft incidences.
“The project is taking longer than anticipated because frequent repairs have to be done after theft," he said.
The area chief, Justus Mwai, confirmed receiving a report about the theft and forwarding it to the police for action.
"It is very risky should a resident fall inside the manholes. They are eight metres deep and there are children playing nearby," he said.
Gladys Wacuka, an inspector, sounded a warning to metal dealers who accept the manhole covers.
She said that investigations are ongoing and arrests will be made.
