Hyena captured as war on killer animal continues in Juja

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers have captured a nine-month-old hyena using a predator trap set in Magomano Location in Juja Sub-County.

This, as efforts to deal with killer hyenas have been stepped up.

Residents have complained about the injuries and sometimes deaths caused by the animals.

An operation 'Ondoa Fisi’ was launched in November last year to deal with the menace in Juja, but residents had complained it had not yielded fruit.

Several weeks ago, a section of Juja residents expressed dissatisfaction with lessons that were shared by KWS on what Kenyans should do to avoid hyena attacks.

On their social media platforms, KWS shared seven lessons on how Kenyans should act when they encounter hyenas.

Among the seven lessons, KWS advised Kenyans not to run, not show signs of fear and keep themselves calm by talking to the killer animal.

It is this lesson that sparked public uproar in Juja, coming after two children and a woman were mauled to death by hyenas.
