Hundreds of worshippers from different religious denominations on Friday briefly brought activity to a halt along the busy Mwea–Embu Highway as they stopped at Kianjiru, near Samson Corner, to offer prayers facing Mount Kenya during an annual prayer pilgrimage.

The pilgrims, travelling in a convoy, paused at the site as part of a long-standing tradition that involves prayers at designated stopovers while journeying towards Mount Kenya.

According to event organiser Samuel Kamitha, the pilgrimage is held annually and includes seven prayer stopovers before reaching the mountain. He said participants believe Mount Kenya holds deep spiritual significance.

“The pilgrims include Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Rastafarians, and other faithful from different countries who believe Mount Kenya has spiritual power,” Kamitha said.

He added that the gathering brings together communities with shared cultural values and beliefs, reinforcing traditions that promote harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Vehicles participating in the pilgrimage were marked with blue ribbons, with organisers using the occasion to call for unity and prayers for the country’s leaders.
