Two robbery suspects were on Tuesday left nursing injuries after their getaway vehicle lost control and crashed in Ndia, Kirinyaga county.

The incident happened at the Kwa Mwega-Baricho junction, on Sagana-Karatina highway.

Kirinyaga west sub-county police commander Moses Koskei said the suspects were being pursued by boda-boda riders when their vehicle lost control.

“The suspects disembarked from their vehicle and escaped on foot, with two of them seeking refuge in a school,” said Koskei.

A mob is said to have followed the two suspects into the school – where learning was ongoing – and beat them to a pulp.

According to the residents, the three suspects had robbed an M-Pesa shop around the area – and were escaping when their car lost control and rammed another vehicle.

Kiine location chief David Githinji said that one of the suspects was armed – and had escaped.

“Two suspect ran into a school and hid in the classes, but angry residents followed them inside the school,” said Chief Githinji.

Githinji said he called the police who responded in time, and saved the suspects from the mob.

“The suspects had stolen Ksh80,000 and five mobile phones from an M-Pesa shop,” he said.

Adding that: “The two suspects were found hiding inside a computer classroom – where learners had been sitting examinations.”

The suspects were taken into custody as police investigate the incident. The suspects' vehicle was towed to Sagana police station.
