Eldoret: Street children venture into car wash business

Street children in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County have ventured into the car washing business.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, they said that they opted to do something meaningful in order to change their lives.

“I’m 32 years old. I moved to the streets following the death of my parents,” one of them said.

The changing tides come as they turn over a new leaf, far from the drugs and crime lifestyle.

“I’ve been using drugs like bhang, glue and taken alcohol. But it is now time to put all that behind me,” added another.

The group, which started their business in Mangula area, are hopeful that their lives will be turned around.

They added that they actualized the idea after leaving the Eldoret Children’s Rescue Center.

The youth have in the meantime appealed to other street children to venture into productive activities.

“Now we can pay our bills and take care of our families. It is a proud moment for all of us,” they concluded.
