Busia: Traders vow not to pay taxes over 'deplorable' state of Nambale market

Traders in the Tangakona market in the Nambale constituencyBusia county, have raised fears of a possible cholera outbreak due to the dirty state of the trading centre.


The traders held protests on Tuesday, complaining that despite paying taxes, the market is not cleaned and they do not have access to clean water.


Apart from the filth and garbage which is scattered in the market, the toilets are not functional and there is nowhere to dispose of waste,” one of the traders said.


The market, which has food vendorsposes a health risk to those buying food as sewage flows in the market.


Traders have now vowed not to pay taxes until the situation is dealt with.


Agatha Simwa, who sells maizeurged the county to step in urgently and resolve the matter to avert a health crisis.
