Bungoma family demands answers after mother delivers, told baby was stillborn
According to Joseph Mugai, who is the father of the child, said his wife gave birth to a boy
on Saturday around 4am.
However, the woman lost consciousness and they were later told their son had died.
After burying the child on Sunday, the family says DCI Webuye officers went to their home on Monday and exhumed the body claiming to have received a court order to do so, so that DNA samples could be taken.
“The officers came in a hurry and quickly exhumed the body and left, dismissing our questions. I was told to wait until tomorrow to get answers.” Elizabeth Maloba, the
aunt to the deceased said.
The family said it is convinced that their child is alive and suspects a foul play by the hospital.
Moses Wafula, a relative to the deceased said, “When we went to pick up the body
for burial, there was only one infant’s body at the place, so it cannot be a case of using taking the wrong body. It leaves us with so many questions.”
According to Bungoma County Health Minister Andrew Wamalwa, they are still waiting for a
full report from the hospital on what happened.
