2024 Huawei Seeds for Future cohort set for digital skills training
The 2024 Huawei
Seeds for the Future program kicked off on June 18, admitting 25 students from
various universities into the program.
The initiative, which aims to cultivate local ICT talent in the country's growing digital economy will be sending students for 1 week training in China.
Through sharing
their various experiences and expertise, students will be able to learn from
other people globally and advance their ICT skills.
Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala stated that the Ministry of Education has taken great initiative in ensuring technology is part of learning, thus enable progress in education.
“The Seeds for The Future program aims at providing
Kenyan university students with digital skills training, enabling them to
better engage with the most mainstream technologies before entering society,
and improving the overall ICT levels,” said Inyangala.
“It is a platform that allows its recipients to
exchange ideas, improve their ICT knowledge and practical skills," she added.
The students will undergo various training programs, including a 5-day virtual training program and a digital tour of Konza Technopolis. Additionally, they will work on a group project aimed at advancing technology to address current social and environmental issues.
Huawei's Kenya's
Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Steven Zhang, lauded the Ministry of Education and the ICT
Authority for their training programs.
“With the Ministry of Education’s help, we have signed partnership agreements with over 50 academic institutions in Kenya. Meanwhile, ICT Authority has been a partner for Seeds for the Future since our first MoU in 2014, jointly promoting the program," he stated.
Sharing his experience
in the program, Danton Kipkururi, the Seeds for the Future
Global Ambassador said termed the program as a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about
using technology to make a difference.
