Kenyan Women’s Premier League (KWPL) side Zetech Sparks will bolster its squad by signing two new players ahead of next season.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Sparks head coach Bernard Kitolo said they are aiming to acquire a midfielder and a striker to strengthen the departments he feels have been shaky in just-concluded season.

Kitolo guided his charges in finishing fourth in the FKF Women’s Cup last week after falling 4-3 in the hands of Kenya Police Bullets at Police Sacco Stadium, Nairobi.

Ulinzi Starlets won the tournament for the third time in a row after demolishing Kibera Soccer Ladies 2-1 in the final match.

In just-ended FKF-KWPL season, Zetech finished in the seventh position with 17 points, 32 points adrift of winners Police Bullets as Vihiga Queens and Ulinzi Starlets occupied second and third positions respectively.

“At some point in the premier league we noted that we were fighting relegation but we thank God that we survived. My defense and striking departments seemed to be shaky and that’s why I want to add two players only to boost the departments,” said Kitolo.

“We have already spotted them but can’t reveal their identities for now, but it will be known soon after we complete the deals. We want to win the league next season and as a coach I will not release any of my players but rather add only the two players,” he added.

Kitolo however hailed Police Bullets for winning the league as well as finishing the FKF Women’s Cup in third position, saying his charges are headed in the right direction.

“Police are the FKF Women’s Premier League champions and it was very difficult to overpower them in the third-place decider (FKF Women’s Cup). They have good players and for us we just wish them the very best as they prepare for the Cecafa Club Championship in mid-August, which will be used as the fourth edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.”
