CAF has announced a 100% increase in financial contributions to over 130 clubs participating in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
This move will see each club receive USD 100,000 (approximately Ksh12.9 million), up from the USD 50,000 (Ksh6.4 million) given last season.
This is welcome news for Kenya Police FC and Nairobi United, who are representing the country in the Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively.
The injection of cash is expected to ease their logistical and operational costs as they prepare to battle Africa’s best.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe described the decision as part of the organisation’s broader vision to elevate African football, with a particular focus on youth development and infrastructure.
“I am very happy with the processes underway to increase by 100% CAF’s financial contributions to each of the approximately 130 African Clubs,” said Motsepe.
“These financial resources will contribute enormously to the development and global competitiveness of African football and investment in youth football development and infrastructure,” he added.
In addition to increased club funding, Motsepe revealed that CAF is reviewing proposals from global marketing firms vying for a massive USD 1 billion partnership deal set to run for up to eight years, in line with COMESA’s competition regulations. These resources are expected to transform African football at both elite and grassroots levels.
For Kenyan clubs, the increased CAF support is a timely boost, offering them not only financial muscle but also motivation to perform better on the continental stage.
