Kenyan rugby stars Kelvin Wekesa and speedster Patrick Odongo have set ablaze the ongoing invitational Rugby Premier league in India after opening matches this weekend.
Odongo, known for his raw pace didn’t take long to settle in
as he scored two quick tries to draw his Delhi Reds side level 21-21 against
Bengaluru Bravehearts in the opening match of the league.
The Daystar man is already a fan favourite in the Mumbai
Football Arena with loud cheers witnessed throughout the opening match every
time Odongo had the ball in his hands.
On the other hand, Kabras Sugar’s stalwart Kevin Wekesa led
his Hyderabad Heroes side to a 24-14 victory against Kalinga Black Tigers
scoring the side’s final try of the game
The Kenyan duo will next be in action on Tuesday, 17th June
2025 as Odongo’s Delhi Reds outfit face Chennai Bulls with Wekesa’s Hyderabad
Heroes set to play Bengaluru Bravehearts.
This is the first edition of India’s Rugby Premier League as
the country gears to make the sport popular amongst its locals with the aim of
incentivizing young people to pursue international rugby careers.
