Western Prisons men volleyball team will play no part in the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League after its players were involved in a road accident Friday evening at Ngareng’iro area along Kiawara road in Laikipia County. According to a police statement released Saturday, the driver of the vehicle which had 18 players on board heading to Nanyuki from Bungoma for their KVF league matches, reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp corner largely filled with loose chippings before landing into a trench. The accident left six players seriously injured and 12 others with minor injuries. They are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals in Laikipia. “All the victims are currently being treated at various local hospitals and to be subsequently visited. The extensively damaged motor vehicle has been towed to the station for further police action. More progress report to follow as investigation is commenced forthwith,” the police said in a statement. According to the fixtures, the Western-based warders were scheduled to face Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Prisons Mombasa in Nanyuki Stadium but the matches have since been cancelled. They have three points so far and have played three matches in the thirteen-team men league. The KVF league second leg for both men and women is currently underway in three different venues in Nairobi, Nanyuki and Vihiga.
