Wazito's Owino set to return to action after lengthy layoff
Wazito FC midfielder Kennedy 'Daddy' Owino is close to
a return to action after almost two years out of competitive football.
Owino last featured in a competitive match in February
last year against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium where he suffered a
knock on his knee.
It initially appeared like a minor issue but as his
pain aggravated, an MRI scanned confirmed he had torn his Anterior Cruciate
Ligaments (ACL) and needed surgery to have it repaired.
After rehabilitation, the former KCB FC player has
been cleared to return to group training in January and will provide much needed
boost for his struggling side.
Wazito have managed just two points from their six
matches in a shocking start to the season. Only Vihiga Bullets have had a worse
start to the campaign.
Wazito head coach Francis Kimanzi admitted they have
paid the price for their slow start to the season and are keen to find their
footing once the league resumes on December 4th.
"Yes, it’s a slow start but it’s too early to
predict anything, we still have some time to correct our mistakes and get back
into the game.
“We have always had a great game but we are keeping teams
in the game and when we do so, they feel they have an opportunity to get
something,” Kimanzi told Citizen Digital.
A lot of investment has been put into the squad but
the results have been elusive on the pitch, raising serious questions about the
future of the Wazito project under their ambitious ownership.
“We should come back and win games. We want to
incorporate the new signings in the team and we are hoping the team is going to
turn things around,” the former Harambee Stars coach said.
