Wazalendo roll out plans to raise Sh7 million for Club Championships
Wazalendo are seeking to raise a Sh7 million budget in preparation for this year’s Africa Cup for Club Championships slated for Blantyre, Malawi.
The club finished second in the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Men’s Premier League last season and thus earned an automatic slot in the continental championships alongside champions Butali Sugar Warriors.
Without a sponsor, the club has been struggling to raise funds in order sustain its activities in the league.
“As a club, we rely heavily on contributions from our members to support our annual budget for participation in various KHU leagues and tournaments. Given that a majority of our members are college students, the income is hardly enough to sustain our programs and is often times supplemented by donations from friends and well-wishers. Though we have struggled with this over the years, we have barely managed to get by. Now that we have a major tournament ahead, it behooves us to go a step further in seeking for support for this great feat,” the club said in a statement.
While it is a tall order to raise the amount, the club is set to launch ‘Mchanga Platform’ on Sunday at the City Park Stadium.
“In order to prepare a formidable team that will effectively participate in the club championships, the club has unveiled a modest budget of Sh6.81 million to cover the cost of preparations, travel, accommodation, players’ kit as well as equipment. This shall be raised through various means including via an Mchanga Platform,” added the club.

Kenyan clubs pulled out of the 2019 tournament held in Ismailia, Egypt due to financial constraints.
