Walkover galore in Enterprise Cup pre-quarter finals
The Enterprise Cup pre-quarter finals
witnessed a host of walkovers as a number of teams boycotted Kenya’s oldest
competition over the weekend.
Out of the eight matches planned for the
weekend, only three were actually played with African Nazarene, USIU, Mwamba
RFC, Stallions and MKU Thika all giving walkovers in their matches.
It’s not yet clear what led to the massive
boycott of the matches but financial strain has affected majority of the teams,
in all league levels.
The notable teams that gave walkovers include
Mwamba RFC, MKU Thika, USIU, African Nazarene University and Stallions RFC.
In other matches, KCB RFC dismantled Catholic
Monks 70-3 at the KCB Sports Club in Nairobi, with the Enterprise Cup being
their only shot at silverware this season.
Elsewhere Mean Machine put aside their recent
off-field shenanigans to edge fellow university students JKUAT 20-17 securing a
slot in the quarter final.
Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad showed grit
and resilience to defeat recently promoted Impala 26-17.
Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar, Northern Suburbs, Kenya Harlequins, Strathmore Leos and Nondescripts also booking their tickets to the quarter finals.
