Tusker's assist-master Shaphan Siwa joins Kagera Sugar of Tanzania
The brief announcement was posted on the club’s website on Thursday confirming the midfielder's exit as a free agent.
The former Chemelil Sugar defensive-midfielder, has been in outstanding form this season, contributing directly to 10 goals in just 14 matches for the Charles Okere-led charges.
With one goal and nine assists to his name - topping the assists chart in the league, his performance this season has been pivotal for the team and has brought the best out of goal poacher Ryan Wesley Ogam.
“Shaphan has left Tusker after the expiry of his contract. Thank you for everything Mshazda. All the best in your new station,” read the statement.
The development brings to an end a two-and-a-half year stay at Ruaraka-based club with whom he won the Premier League title in his debut season in 2021/2022.
Although the club did not disclose the reason they decided not to extend the stay of their on-form forward, reports indicated that he is Tanzania bound and is expected to join Kagera Sugar Football Club.
This is going to be his second stint in Tanzania having featured for Biashara United in the 2020/21 season before joining the Brewers in the 2022/2023 season.
According to reports, Siwa received a hefty sign-on fee from the Tanzanian outfit, as well as a significant pay raise from what he was earning at Tusker.
The Brewers is reportedly to have made efforts to offer him an improved deal with a sign-on package, but couldn’t beat the offer placed on the table by the Tanzanian outfit.
Upon the announcement by Tusker, Siwa took to his Facebook account to bid goodbye to the club fans, with him admitting that leaving Tusker wasn’t an easy decision to make. However, he felt it was time for a new challenge.
"As I bid farewell to Tusker FC, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you. The journey with this incredible club has been a chapter in my life that I will forever cherish. You, the fans, have been the heart and soul of this experience. Your energy, whether at home or away, has been an unwavering source of motivation", read the opening part of the post.
He also had the message for the club management, coaches, colleagues and the technical bench.
"To my teammates, coaches, and the club's management, thank you for your trust and encouragement. Together, we've experienced both triumphs and challenges, but it's the bonds we've formed that I will carry with me always”, said the former Biashara United player.
“I will forever be proud to have worn the yellow jersey. I leave with cherished memories, and I will continue supporting Tusker from wherever life takes me. Thank you for everything. I wish the club nothing but success in the future", the post concluded.
He was signed by the then Tusker who converted him from a defensive-midfielder to an attacking-midfielder, a role that he ended up flourishing in.
The Kisumu Day High School alumni, was signed by Robert ‘Lion’ Matano, after he apparently failed to obtain a working permit and subsequently, could not feature in the league matches, leaving him a frustrated player who was only eligible for friendly matches.
His impressive displays also earned him a national team call-up for the ongoing Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, although he did not make the final cut.
“Tusker has been like family to me, and it was not easy to leave but I believe it’s time to push myself further and embrace a new challenge. I’ve enjoyed tremendous success here (at Tusker) and now I’m eager to test myself at a new club, with the aim of replicating that success and even surpassing it,” he expressed.
