Tusker FC set to unveil new signings ahead of new season
FKF Premier League side Tusker FC will on Tuesday unveil their new signings and new kit for the new season, just a day after landing from Kampala, Uganda where they had a week-long pre-season tour.
Among those that are expected to be unveiled are
former Murang’a SEAL winger Eric Naaman Balecho, custodian Joseph Ochuka from
Bandari FC, two Uganda imports George Kaddu from Wakiso Giants [Uganda] and
Boban Zirintusa from Biashara FC [Tanzania].
Others include; Yusuf Mainge from Kenya Police,
Jacob Onyango and Dennis Wanjala both from Sofapaka, Ryan Ogam from Rainbow FC
and Teddy Dok who has been promoted from Tusker Youth.
With less than three weeks to the start of the new
season, Tusker are in a rush to replace 11 players who departed at the end of
last season. The exodus also saw head Robert Matano exit after six years at the
helm.
Among those that were released by the 13-time FKF
Premier League champions are key figures, goal-poacher Eric Kapaito, who joined
Tanzania’s outfit Naming FC, Daniel Sakari who joined Kenya Police FC,
custodian Brian Bwire and long-serving defender Eugene Asike.
Others are; Eric Zakayo, Stewart Omondi, Collins
Otieno, Jimmy Mbugua, Boniface Onyango, Eric Otieno and striker Ibrahim Joshua.
After parting ways with Matano, Tusker have since
appointed Charles Okere as head coach on interim basis, earning ‘promotion’
from Tusker Youth with Matano’s assistant George Maina expected to deputise
Okere.
Already, under the tutelage of Okere, Tusker have
played three intensive friendlies in Uganda which registered mixed results.
They beat Bright Stars 1-0 thanks to new signing
Ryan Ogam’s goal, before replicating the same scoreline against Uganda Cup
holders Kitara FC 1 - 0 courtesy of Lawrence Luvanda’s 77th minute goal, then
ended the tour with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Lugazi FC.
Speaking on Monday last week after the team landed
in Uganda pre-season tour, interim coach Charles Okere said he would use the
three friendly matches to help his new signings settle in the team.
“For us to have a holistic team, we have to develop
the technical, the tactical, the physical and the mental aspect and that is
that's we are here. We want to do everything as a team and play as a team.
Also, bonding is key for us, in terms of team cohesion because the new players
are in, now we are full and that's why we appreciate this camp," Okere
stated
Before travelling to Uganda, Tusker had played two
pre-season friendly matches against NSL’s Sam West BlackBoots and Dandora
Combined winning 4 – 0 and 3 – 0 respectively.
