Transfers: City Stars to boost defence and attack, reveals Otieno
Football Kenya Federation Premier League newbies Nairobi City Stars will prioritise recruiting a striker and a defender before the current transfer window is over.
The Hope Center – Kawangware based side has staged a lukewarm start into the season and currently sit ninth on the log after collecting ten points from a possible thirty.
Club director of football Samson Otieno attributes their average start to many of his players being inexperienced at the top level.
“We are proud of the kind of start that we have had so far because we started the season with many players who have never played in the top league. Our target was to facilitate the players as a way of helping them to quickly adapt to the demands of top tier football,” said Otieno.
However, Otieno says they will be active in the market to add more quality in the squad aiming a improve on their current position by the end of the season.
“We understand that every player adapts to the league demands at a different pace and for that reason, we have those that are ready to compete while others need more time. For that reason, we intend to sign two or three players who will help push the rest as the season progresses.”
Although he wants to beef up his defence and the attack departments, Otieno was not specific the players they are tracking in the current window.
According to the sports director, most of the players signed in preseason are doing well and have been central to the team’s promising start to the campaign.
He however insists they will have to adapt quickly to avoid finishing poorly come the end of the season.
“We have played relatively better compared to our promotion fellows and that is down to our approach. However, we desire to do better than our previous performances as we are a force to be reckoned with in the league,” he concluded.
The team will be aiming to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat by Sofapaka last weekend when they take on Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.
