TM Imbenzi backs Homeboyz to emulate 2023 FKF Cup success

Homeboyz won the FKF Cup by beating Tusker 1-0 in the final two years ago, and will be keen to see off in-form NSL leaders Nairobi United in Thursday’s quarter finals at Dandora Stadium from 1pm.

“It is clear that most of our boys understand the terrain of that tournament- FKF Cup- and that it does have a few matches and one is in the final to fight for a title.

“We know the fruits of playing well in this tournament and also the advantage of representing the country – in the CAF Confederations Cup- which we want to be part of once again,” said Imbenzi.

The Francis Baraza-coached Homeboyz overpowered Shabana 1-0 to book a ticket in the quarter final on April 13 while Nairobi United triumphed 6-5 in post-match shootouts against KCB.

“So that has also been a motivation for them to push for something good. And then the gelling has been there as we also look to finish very well in the league by winning our six matches that are remaining,” added Imbenzi.

Imbenzi however warned against thinking about the final and instead urged the squad to target one game at a time.

“Our target is that we are going to take a match as it comes, be it a league match or a Cup match. We want to fully focus and work hard to ensure we keep the momentum.

“As I repeat, we are taking every match as a final and nothing less nothing more.”

The Kakamega-based team are currently fifth in the FKF Premier League standings with 42 points, ten adrift of leaders Kenya Police with 18 points remaining to fight for.
