Tense Ingo Derby Ends in Goalless Stalemate
The eagerly awaited Ingo
derby between Kakamega Homeboyz and AFC Leopards, which enthralled a packed
crowd, concluded in a goalless draw at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega town on
Sunday afternoon.
The match was marked by tense and physical
encounters, leading the centre referee to issue several yellow cards to players
from both teams.
In the first half, scoring opportunities were
scarce, with both sides struggling to create clear chances.
AFC Leopards defender Kaycie Odhiambo's
14th-minute header rattled the crossbar, while Homeboyz midfielder Hillary
Otieno's grass-cutter shot was thwarted by Leopards goalkeeper Lewis Opiyo in
the 27th-minute.
The intensity of the game heightened in the
second half, with both teams creating multiple scoring opportunities but
failing to convert them into goals.
Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo
expressed contentment with the one point earned from the derby, acknowledging
the toughness of the match.
"It was a challenging game. While we
aimed to secure a victory, we found ourselves with minimal opportunities, much
like our opponents," he remarked
On the other hand, AFC Leopards head coach Thomas Trucha disclosed internal issues within the camp that affected their performance in the derby. Despite this, he expressed satisfaction with the draw.
