The final, held at the Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa County on Saturday, brought together top legal minds in a spirited sporting contest that saw the LSK President, Faith Odhiambo, face off against her Deputy in a symbolic and highly anticipated showdown.
In the decisive shootout, Team Faith missed one penalty, while Team Mwaura converted all three of their attempts to claim the trophy in the 22nd edition of the annual tournament. The Mombasa Law Society secured third place in the football competition with a narrow 1-0 win over the Malindi Law Society.
The day was filled with intense competitions across multiple disciplines.
In basketball, the Senate team emerged as champions, showcasing skill and coordination to top the podium. They were followed closely by Anjarwalla & Khanna, who took second place, while the Mombasa Law Society finished third after a strong performance throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, in volleyball, the Mombasa Law Society dominated the court to claim first place, with the Senate taking second, and the Rift Valley team securing third place in a tightly contested bracket.
Speaking to Citizen Digital during the event, LSK President Faith Odhiambo reflected on the growing significance of the Justice Cup:
“Each year, this tournament grows in impact. Our aim is to connect, compete, and conquer across our eight LSK branches and invited teams. Last year, Parliament took the win. This year, it was great to see even more involvement, and we truly appreciate the partners who make it all possible.”
Beyond competition, Odhiambo highlighted the deeper purpose of the games.
“We’re tackling mental health through sport. The legal profession can be extremely demanding, and this is a vital outlet. It’s inspiring to see both seasoned lawyers and young practitioners come out to play, relieve stress, and build camaraderie. This is how we fight burnout and emotional fatigue,” said Odhiambo.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir officially opened the event and praised the LSK for promoting well-being through sport.
“Let’s stay united with one goal — a healthy, peaceful country. I’m proud to see the legal fraternity embracing physical activity, which is key to our well-being,” he said.
Nassir also commended LSK's role in maintaining checks and balances in governance.
“LSK has always stood firm in speaking truth to power. Your voice matters — when it's silent, others may lead us astray. Continue keeping leadership in check and upholding the rule of law.”
