Storm over Vihiga County FKF League
Confusion has emerged as there have
been jitters among the teams which signed up for Vihiga FKF County League, with
some terming the competition counterproductive
Some of the teams have thus
threatened to withdraw from the league.
Such include Original FC and Kima United,
which have declared their exit protesting what they have termed as "spending
much for nothing."
"Top three teams were not
motivated last season. This is a wasteful league. We have opted to play
tournaments hoping that we will get enough resources to sign for a higher
league competition next season," Victor Osanya Captain Original FC claimed
in a statement that was supported by their Kima United's coach Joe Osiru.
"You pay to register for the
league at a fee, pay referees and foot camp and transport expenses on your own
yet at the end of the season no one awards you even for emerging top three!
They added.
However, Vihiga County FKF branch Secretary
Michael Senelwa thinks the protests are not well founded.
"It is high time football club
officials asked themselves why they are venturing in football in the first
place. Do they want to use the club to get scholarships for students in a school
setting? You may wish to establish a team as an academy of growing football
talent or forming a team to nurture talent and sell to other teams," Senelewa opined.
"You must understand the
football landscape of where you are before joining any league. Does it have
sponsorship? For our case no and make informed decisions to avoid unforeseen
challenges," he added.
Senelwa has vouched for the Vihiga
County FKF League, maintaining that there are teams that have persevered and
ended up reaping fruits of patience.
"This league has given many a
platform to showcase their talent. It is possible to transfer players from this
league to the top tier one. As a coach you gain more experience in managing
players," Senelwa averred.
"When you organise your club
well, improve on image through proper branding then you can as well attract
partners instead of waiting for us to get partners to sponsor the league. It's
a matter of everyone understanding their role in the whole matter," he
added.
According to Senelwa, 11 teams have already signed up for this season's Vihiga FKF County League and they are only waiting for the 12th one before drawing fixtures, next week.
