Situma: What Nzoia Sugar must do as NSL journey begins
Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) president and
former Nzoia Sugar FC player James Situma has challenged the club's management
to give managers ample time to instil their philosophies into the team.
Situma also expressed his concerns about the club’s handling of
coaches, suggesting that constant changes in the coaching staff are
counterproductive.
Situma advised the management to give enough time to build a cohesive
team, as they embark on a National Super League journey following their
relegation from the Premier League last season.
"Instead of firing coaches after every poor performance,
the management should focus on finding a good coach and giving them the time
needed to build a strong and stable team," Situma advised.
The retired footballer also reflected on his career with Nzoia
Sugar FC in the early 2000s, and shared his thoughts on what the club needs to
do to bounce back.
"It’s difficult to win the league by depending on just young
players, inexperienced players alone," Situma explained.
"To truly perform well, Nzoia FC needs at least a few
experienced players who can make a significant contribution and provide leadership
on and off the pitch," he added.
Nzoia Sugar FC, a team with a rich history in Kenyan football, will be seeking to make an immediate return to the FKF Premier League next season after their disappointing relegation.
Despite the setback, Situma remains hopeful that the club can
turn its fortunes around, provided that the management adopts a more strategic
and long-term approach.
