Former AFC Leopards and Shabana head coach Gilbert Selebwa has
parted ways with National Super League (NSL) side Samwest after running down
his short-term contract and is now assessing 'numerous options available to
him.’
“As far as I’m concerned, I am a free agent, and I know there are a
number of teams I have held talks with.
What now remains is to await and see their contract terms before
assessing them to make the final decision on which team to join.
I am confident I will land a better contract before the season
begins,” Selebwa revealed.
“I think as things were, HOHA and Samwest had an agreement that
the teams would combine to form one team by the name Samwest FC, but as it is,
nothing materialized.
Their contract to work together as Samwest/HOHA FC expired at the
end of the season, and so the merger plans have not worked out well; hence, HOHA
decided to detach themselves from football going forward.
I have not held any talks with Samwest for contract renewal, hence
informing my decision to look for other suitors,” Selebwa said.
Selebwa is prioritizing coaching another NSL side to help them
attain promotion to FKF/PL
“My intention and priority is to continue coaching the Super League
side and help them earn promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.
As you know, we have a lot of coaches in the Premier League who are
being paid well, and also we have very many tacticians who are qualified with a CAF A diploma.
"Therefore, I choose to stick to NSL football before I make any
move to the top-tier league to coach a team there,” Selebwa told a Citizen Digital reporter.
