School Games: Koyonzo retain rugby 7s title

Koyonzo Secondary
School successfully retained their rugby Sevens title after thumping Vihiga
Boys 22-12 in a scintillating final showdown at Bull Ring grounds in Kakamega
County.
The champions
got off to a flying start, scoring three quick tries through Jackson Siketa,
Kevin Otieno and Granton Mulefu as they set the early pace.
The opening
two conversions were skied wide but Eric Simiyu made no mistake with the third
before hauled themselves back in the game.
They pulled
two back through Kedera Owen and Victor Wawire with Roy Maruti successfully
converting to make it 12 reducing the margin.
Siketa cross
the whitewash for the final try late on to diminish Vihiga’s fightback and
ensure the national rugby honours remained with Koyonzo.
Eastern
Region's Kitondo hammered St. Mary's Yala 40-05 in play-offs to advance to the
East Africa as third place finishers.
In girls'
rugby, St. Maurice Mwira thumped Gilgil 10-05 to grace the first ever national
trophy with the introduction of the game in girl Schools.
Madira
completed the third place after thrashing Bishop Sulumeti 05-00 to take the
bronze medal.
Elsewhere,
Onjiko Boys are the new Basketball 3x3 champions after crushing Timbila
20-11 while Ototo reigned supreme in
girls' category beating St. Brigid's Kiminini 14-9 to be crowned champions.
Volleyball
girls' final will have a repeat of last year's showdown with Kwanthanze
battling it out with Riftvalley's Kesogon after flooring hosts Mwitoti 3-0
(25-19, 25-20, 25-17) in the semi-finals. Kesogon had ran riot over Soweto
beating them 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-17).
In boys
final, Nairobi's Ruthimitu will square it out with Riftvalley's Andersen who
will be looking to win their maiden title.
Ruthimitu
conquered hosts Namwela in semis thumping them 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) while
Andersen stunned Tumaini 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19).
