Speaking during the event at City Hall, Sakaja expressed his pride in the team’s dedication and commitment to flying Nairobi’s flag high.
He used the opportunity to unveil a major plan to boost boxing infrastructure in the city by constructing 17 social halls one in each sub-county fully equipped with necessary training facilities, including boxing rings.
“We are taking sports seriously. Apart from constructing stadiums, we will now build social halls and equip them with boxing rings in all our sub-counties to ensure that boxing is also well supported,” Sakaja affirmed.
The Governor also announced that the popular Sakaja Super Cup, which has largely focused on football, will in the future incorporate other sports, including boxing.
He emphasized the crucial role sports play in society, not just in promoting a healthy lifestyle but also as a viable career path for young people.
“Sports bring people together, and apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, it is an opportunity to give our youth a chance to make it a career, earn a living, and also fight drug abuse,” Sakaja stated.
Several stadiums including Woodley, Mwiki, and Kihumbuini, are currently under construction to support the growth of the sports industry.
