Richard Binga promises transparency at Karate federation after taking charge
Engineer Richard Ngichabe Binga, the newly elected
chairperson of the Kenya Karate Federation (KKF), has promised to foster a
culture of transparency and sustainable talent development within the
organization.
Binga acknowledged the need for reforms to ensure
transparency in the management of the federation's resources and
decision-making processes.
“Our strategy will be to work as a team and from our
strategic plan we will be doing annual operation plans from which each
individual will be given targets. Then we shall be doing quarterly and annual
reviews so that we can capture the performance.
We must also keep proper records so that when we are doing
reports to the stakeholders, especially the members in the Karate family, the
records are clear and everybody can follow,” said Binga.
Binga, who is also the chairman of the Kenyatta National
Hospital karate club, has also emphasized the importance of adherence to the
Kenya Sports Act 2013. He outlined his vision to elevate the standards of
karate in the country by focusing on both the governance and operational
aspects of the federation.
By aligning the federation’s practices with the legal
framework set out by the Kenya Sports Act 2013, Binga seeks to build a more
professional and accountable organization.
“Given that we are being guided by the Sports Act 2013
compliance, there are some parameters that we have to meet, and that will be
one of our reference point to ensure transparency and proper reporting on our activities.”
Binga’s leadership comes at a time when sports federations in Kenya are under increased scrutiny to improve governance.
His election on September 8 marked a significant step for
the federation, which has been operating under a caretaker committee since 2023
due to previous compliance issues with the Sports Act.
