President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially opened the Jamhuri Sports Complex located along Ngong Rd. in Nairobi.

The facility houses three football pitches, two rugby fields as well as a running track and will double as a recreational centre for members of the public.

The complex, which sits on a 79 acre piece of land, also has food courts, modern ablution blocks and picnic sites within its grounds.

The facility is among new sports infrastructure that have been completed within 12 months as part of the government’s bid to nurture talent and promote sporting activities across the country.

“As a country we are proud of our sporting prowess. We have seen our sports heroes like Michael Olunga, Collins Injera, Oscar Ouma, Vincent Onyala, Eliud Kipchoge, Mercy Cherono, Faith Kipyegon among others bring honour to our motherland through their exemplary performances at the international stage.

“Through the construction of such sports facilities we seek to nurture even more talents  as we make sports a mainstream income-earning venture for our youth,” CS Amina Mohamed said.

Renovations works at the grounds began in 2020.
