Police ready for Zamalek test, says Modo
Police FC Head Coach Antony Kimani says they
understand the tough task awaiting them in Saturday's CAF Confederations Cup
tie against Egyptian giants Zamalek, at the Nyayo National Stadium - Nairobi.
Kimani however feels they have prepared well, and
are capable of staging an upset against the five-time champions.
The former AFC Leopards, Bandari FC and Ulinzi
Stars coach underlined Zamalek are to be respected for their decorated history
at the continentals, but is hopeful of a good show from his charges.
“We know how tough the game is likely to be. They
are a very good side, five-time African champions but we have prepared well for
the last two weeks. I believe we are ready for the tough task that
lies ahead ,”said Kimani.
Kimani, popularly known
as Modo, confirmed midfielder Kenneth Muguna
is still suspended, while Brian Musa is out with an ankle injury suffered
during the first leg against Ethiopian Coffee.
“We have injuries but we also have enough depth and
experienced players who will cover for them. The team is motivated ahead of the
game and we know we will give our best,” added Kimani, who also revealed midfielder David Owino is still out with a knee
injury.
Veteran defender David 'Cheche' Ochieng knows the
importance of taking home advantage against the CAF Cup holders if they are to
progress.
“We have to win at home. That is what normally
happens in these kind of games if you want to advance. We will give our best at
home, and go get a good result away. That is our prayer,” observed Cheche.
Police will battle Zamalek a day before Kenyan
Premier League champions Gor Mahia's clash with another Egyptian giant Al Ahly,
at the same venue.
