Eldoret-based Pioneer FC will benefit from a Ksh. 750,000
sponsorship kitty after clinching the second edition of the North Rift Cheza
Dimba event held at Huruma grounds in Eldoret on Saturday, thanks to an
impressive finals win against Eldoret Warriors
The event, part of an initiative sponsored by a gaming firm,
brought together six male teams and two ladies' teams in a tournament of
grassroots football and community development.
Pioneer’s victory earned them an impressive three-year sponsorship
bundle worth Ksh. 750,000 spread over the period and a set of home and away
kit units that will be renewed every year.
Speaking after the victory, Pioneer skipper Jeff Ochieng
expressed his gratitude for the initiative.
"I thank the sponsor for bringing this tournament, and
this prize cash will significantly help us with visiting and facilitating our
players."
Team Manager Jesse Mbugua highlighted the tournament's
community impact, in particular in addressing youngsters demanding situations
within the location.
"We are grateful to our enthusiasts who got here in
large numbers. We only had one concept in mind—to win this match.
“In Huruma, where crime incidents are excessive amongst
young people, soccer gives a getaway course for younger people, keeping them
away from criminal activities."
Coach Kerry Omondi emphasized the transformative power of
sports activities, pointing out that "the game enables children to abandon
drugs and eliminates idleness from their minds.
“Football allows young people to distance themselves from
many poor effects."
In the girls' category, Psalms 105 defeated Kapenguria
Queens to win the female championship, earning KSh 50,000 and an entire kit
set.
Willis Ojwang, the firm’s public relations and advertising manager, praised Pioneer FC's journey from the organizational level to the
final, noting their unwavering fighting spirit and strong community support.
"The massive
turnout of lovers from morning to evening verified genuine ownership of the
game and exhibited the community-pushed nature of this initiative."
The Cheza Dimba platform continues to champion grassroots
sports improvement, skills identity, and network empowerment throughout Kenya,
providing platforms for younger athletes to show off their abilities whilst
fostering high-quality social exchange.
