Family sources confirmed that Otula succumbed to a cardiac arrest at his Nairobi home in the early hours of the morning.
Kenya Ports Authority ladies team head coach Anthony Ojuwku said the long-serving Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) boss has left a lasting impact on the sport.
“What a great loss to both basketball and the education family. Chairman championed for the growth of the game of basketball and education. His fruits can be seen through the people he nurtured.

“I am deeply saddened by the sudden death. I have known him since my childhood and most of the players passed through him in Maseno. He was a charismatic person and always admired my team. He used to call me to make reservations about how we played.

“He had a chequered career as a teacher of no mean repute; Principal of both Mangu High School and Maseno School; and an icon in basketball circles. He was among the pioneer recipients of the prestigious Principal of the Year Award (POYA), a recognition given by KESSHA in partnership with TSC and the Ministry of Education.

“He played a vital role last year when we won the championship, forever will always miss him. To the family and entire sporting family we say pole sana for we've lost a hero. May His soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
